Nature Based Play

Everyone is welcome to the 6th Annual Nadaka Community Festival to be held at Nadaka Nature Park in Gresham on August 20th from Noon to 3:00pm.   Portland Audubon’s live educational birds will be there and we’ll have activities for all ages.  Free hot dogs (while they last), face painting and the Aztec dancers will perform in the meadow.  Community groups will have information tables.

Address: 17615 NE Glisan Street, Gresham, OR 97230. Enter at NE 175th & NE Pacific where there is parking in the neighborhood or NE 175th & NE Glisan with parking in St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church parking lot.  Also parking available on the south side of NE Glisan at NE 176th in the neighborhood.  Crosswalk available across NE Glisan.festival-dancers-1-300x200-9168052

Everyone is invited to the 5th Annual Nadaka Community Festival to be held on the south two acres of Nadaka and on the meadow.  There will be free hot dogs while they last, fun activities for children and families, live music and dancing. There will be an Interpretive Nature Walk with the Audubon Society of Portland from 9am to 10am.

Location: 17615 NE Glisan Street Portland, OR 97230. (Even though the address says Portland the park is located in Gresham).

 Entrances/Parking: Parking is available in the Wilkes East neighborhood or in the St. Aidan’s parking lot next to Nadaka. Entrances are at 176th and NE Pacific St. or 176th and NE Glisan St.

Everyone invited to attend the Nadaka Festival Committee Meeting to help make plans for the 5th Annual Nadaka Community Festival which will be held on Saturday, August 22nd this year.  With the addition of the community garden, nature based play area, covered picnic shelter, etc this promises to be the best Nadaka Festival ever.  We need lots of volunteers to make this happen and that means you!

Official grand opening celebration.  Come and see the development of the 2 acre site at the South edge of Nadaka Nature Park.  The Audubon Society of Portland’s Education birds will be there together with activities for the whole family and light refreshments.

of Nadaka Nature Park

Saturday, April 4th 10:00am to Noon

The official opening of the newly created community garden, nature based play area, and picnic shelter on the south two acres of the park.

com-garden-300x225-9129184Come and see our new community garden at Nadaka. There are six ADA raised beds for those needing them. Plots are available for 50 families depending on size desired. Adam Kohl of Outgrowing Hunger will be managing this City of Gresham community garden.
You can register online with the City of Gresham or register at the Grand Opening.

The amazing nature based play area for children will connect them to the natural world longhouse-300x225-8096150through play. Wood elements for this structure donated by Tualatin Hills Parks & Recreation. Other wood elements are from Doug Firs in the forest that had to be removed & boulders are from the new Rockwood Police Station site on NE 181st.

audubon-live-birds-7840181The Audubon Society of Portland’s Education birds will be present and teaming up with Slough School to provide environmental education.  Attendees can spread seeds on the new eco lawn areas and enjoy a walk in the forest stopping to view the Camp Fire Girls kiosk.

Refreshments and fun for the whole family!  Meet the many partners of Friends of Nadaka that have made this possible.

Running a little behind on posting progress reports but take a look at what had been done as of January 30, 2015 at Nadaka Nature Park.  And don’t forget to come to the grand opening celebration on Saturday, April 4th from 10:00am to Noon.

dscn39291-300x225-7954762Come out to Nadaka on Saturday, April 18th beginning at 9:00am until Noon to participate in the SOLVE cleanup.  Go to the SOLVE website to pre-register for this event.

Tools and gloves will be provided as well as refreshments for volunteers.  Its a great opportunity to improve Nadaka and make new friends.  You will also get a chance to see the new two acre addition to the park which includes a nature based play area, community garden and picnic shelter.

Take a look at the construction progress at the Nadaka Nature Park & Garden Project as of November 24, 2014. Most of the pavement and utilities are in, picnic shelter is up and tables being installed, elements are now in nature based play area. Grand opening celebration tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2015.
