We are delighted to welcome Slider the otter and Seeker the raven to Nadaka. Slider was created by artist Rip Caswell and Seeker was created by artist Chad Caswell. Meeting to discuss safety issues at Nadaka Nature Park. Community is invited. Speakers to include Gresham Police Dept., CVIP, NET (Neighborhood Enforcement Team), Gresham Mediation Specialist, Gresham Parks Dept. representative, Wilkes East Neighborhood Association representative, Friends of Nadaka, Nadaka Ambassadors, St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church. This will be an opportunity to discuss safety issues at the park and what the community can do to get involved and make things better.
On Friday, October 14, 2016 the Portland Monthly magazine awarded the Friends of Nadaka a Light A Fire Award in the category of Game-Changing Project. This award recognized an innovative collaboration that generates a transformative impact for one or more nonprofits. There were over 100 nominations submitted of which seven were given to organizations and five to individuals.

September Nature Walk
Join the Audubon Society and Friends of Nadaka for a family-friendly, guided nature walk, open to both beginners and advanced bird watchers. This is a great opportunity to brush up on birding and plant identification basics.
Bring binoculars if you have them; otherwise, we will have some for you to borrow.

2) Nadaka Nature Park’s north entrance is at NE Pacific Street and 176th. You may park in the neighborhood and follow the path through the forest to get to the picnic structure.
In November voters will have a chance to support continued stewardship in our local and regional natural areas. Renewal of the Regional Natural Area Levy will directly support stewardship work on Metro-owned natural areas in Gresham (e.g. Gresham Buttes and Grant Butte Wetlands) as well as support local grants like the ones supporting conservation education at Nadaka Nature Park. Please vote yes on 26-178!
This Measure renews the 2013 parks and natural areas levy twithout raising taxes. A home assessed at $200,000 would continue to pay just $20 a year. That’s a small price to pay to protect our area’s clean water and some of our most beautiful natural areas.

Everyone is welcome to the 6th Annual Nadaka Community Festival to be held at Nadaka Nature Park in Gresham on August 20th from Noon to 3:00pm. Portland Audubon’s live educational birds will be there and we’ll have activities for all ages. Free hot dogs (while they last), face painting and the Aztec dancers will perform in the meadow. Community groups will have information tables.

Enter at NE 175th & NE Pacific where there is parking in the neighborhood or NE 175th & NE Glisan with parking in St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church parking lot. Did you notice you only see Turkey Vultures in the metropolitan area in the spring and summer? That’s because they migrate to warmer climates in the winter, but it’s time to welcome them back. We’re lucky to still have good populations of Turkey Vultures in Oregon. Around the world vultures are facing hazards in the wild and their numbers are dwindling. As “Nature’s Recyclers,” they play an important role in reducing disease—and it’s up to us to help

Join Friends of Nadaka and the Audubon Society of Portland for our monthly guided Bird Walk at Nadaka Nature Park. This is a family-friendly event open to beginners and advance bird watchers.
