Invasive Plants

Posted on 3 January 2017

In collaboration with our partner, Audubon Society of Portland, we would like to encourage everyone to enroll in their Backyard Habitat Certification Program. flower-300x198-5318804 If you live in Gresham and register before the end of the year the City of Gresham will reimburse you the $35 registration fee. A special technician will come out and give you great advice about native plants and birds as well as a discount to purchase native plants.  If you don’t get registered before the end of the year it is still well worth the $35.

Give yourself and the birds a gift and make your yard more lovely and a better home for birds.

Rain or shine.  Come dressed for weather.  Help improve Nadaka by removing invasives, trail maintenance, weeding planted beds and litter removal. Work gloves and tools provided.  Refreshments for volunteers. Learn which plants are native to Nadaka and which are invasives and need to be removed. Even if you can only volunteer for One Hour it will help.  There is so much to be done at Nadaka to keep it looking like the wonderful park it is.

Meet at Nadaka picnic shelter next to NE Glisan & NE 176th Ave.

SOLVE Cleanup at Nadaka on April 26th was a success for everyone.  37 volunteers came out to help remove invasives for this Earth Day cleanup with SOLVE. We logged 112 hours of volunteer time and filled a 40 cu yard dumpster.solve2-300x249-1265336 Some did take time out to enjoy Turtle Rock.solve1-300x225-6332392          A big thank you to Jazzy Bagel for the wonderful bagels.

flower1-300x198-5792945Come to Nadaka this Saturday,     April 12th at 10am for a Walk & Talk thru Nadaka.  We will meet at the North gate – NE 175th & NE Pacific.  There will be an Invasive Species Specialist from the City of Gresham, someone from the Columbia Slough Watershed Council to talk about the Slough and a Camp Fire Girl who actually attended Nadaka when she was a Camp Fire Girl.

It is a beautiful time at Nadaka right now with the Trilliums and Cherry trees in bloom and the sun is supposed to be shining as well.  A walk in the woods is definitely good for your health and this is right in your neighborhood.
