Welcome Back Vulture Day Is Coming to Nadaka Nature Park and St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church!
Did you notice you only see Turkey Vultures in the metropolitan area in the spring and summer? That’s because they migrate to warmer climates in the winter, but it’s time to welcome them back. We’re lucky to still have good populations of Turkey Vultures in Oregon. Around the world vultures are facing hazards in the wild and their numbers are dwindling. As “Nature’s Recyclers,” they play an important role in reducing disease—and it’s up to us to help
Welcome Back Vulture Day is filled with fun and educational activities:
- Meet Ruby, Portland Audubon’s Turkey Vulture, up close (along with many of Audubon’s other education birds)
- Compare your “wingspan” to that of a California Condor
- Make a crafted vulture and mask
- Play “Upchuck Chuck!”
- Learn fun vulture facts
- Find out the differences between Old and New World vultures
- Discover why vultures are important

In collaboration with our partner, Audubon Society of Portland, we would like to encourage everyone to enroll in their Backyard Habitat Certification Program. If you live in Gresham and register before the end of the year the City of Gresham will reimburse you the $35 registration fee. A special technician will come out and give you great advice about native plants and birds as well as a discount to purchase native plants. If you don’t get registered before the end of the year it is still well worth the $35.
Give yourself and the birds a gift and make your yard more lovely and a better home for birds.
On April 4th, 2015 the new 2 acre section of Nadaka Nature Park opened to the delight of the community. Read more about the opening in the article written by Jodi Weinberger of the Outlook.
Everyone is invited to the 5th Annual Nadaka Community Festival to be held on the south two acres of Nadaka and on the meadow. There will be free hot dogs while they last, fun activities for children and families, live music and dancing. There will be an Interpretive Nature Walk with the Audubon Society of Portland from 9am to 10am.
